Coffee

Coffee

Coffee originates from the genus of plants known as Coffea. It is one of the most beloved beverages worldwide. This drink is brewed from roasted coffee beans, which are the seeds of berries from specific Coffea species. The beverage is dark, bitter, slightly acidic, and acts as a great energy booster due to its caffeine content. Coffee is produced in several South Indian states such as Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra, Telangana, and Northeastern Indian states like Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, and Manipur.

Sarn Global Imports & Exports offers the following coffee varieties:

  • Arabica: Coffea Arabica is the oldest and most dominant species of coffee, accounting for 70% of the world’s coffee production and consumption. Originally native to Ethiopia, Arabica beans are now grown globally.
  • Robusta: The most common varietal of Coffee Canephora is Robusta. It is widely used in espresso blends due to its ability to produce a better crema (the creamy layer found on top of an espresso shot) than Arabica. Robusta plants are more resistant to disease, produce better yields, and contain more caffeine.

Robusta plants are stouter and almost twice the size of Arabica plants, thriving in higher humidity. After flowering, the berries take nearly a year to ripen. Robusta is self-sterile, thus requiring cross-pollination by wind, bees, and other insects for reproduction.

Arabica and Robusta are the two most common types of coffee beans, differing in taste, caffeine content, and growing conditions.
